Fermentation : Kombucha for your skin

Fermentation, although is a new skincare trend but it’s not a new process.

Let’s talk Science: What is fermentation?

Fermentation is a process that happens when you introduce microbes like bacteria or yeast into an ingredient and the process changes the chemical structure of the ingredient by breaking it down into basic building blocks deriving vitamins, essential minerals and amino acids into their purest forms. The word fermentation comes from a Latin word “fervere”,which means to boil”, but actually this process is possible without the heat. This process that organisms use to create energy   happens specifically in oxygen less environment.
If we go on to simplify fermentation is taking things down and breaking them into smaller parts so that they can be better utilised or directed to where they need to go. The microorganism’s activity creates a desirable change in food and  beverages whether it’s increasing flavour, preserving food stuffs, providing health benefits or more. These fermented foods not just add tang and zest to your meals but they also are an excellent addition to a healthy diet including improved digestive health, stronger immunity and increased availability of beneficial nutrients.

Benefits of Fermentation in Skincare

Fermented skincare ingredients are just as great for your skin as fermented foods are for your body. After the ingredients undergo the fermentation process, they tend to absorb better into the skin as we are left with smaller and concentrated molecules, thus reducing the chances of skin irritation making it more safer, effective and suitable for sensitive skin types.

Fermentation process brings about new amino acids, organic acids , antioxidants and all these things help hydrate and nourish the skin to another level.
